Tour A Minimalist Home With Luxe Marble Accents

Marble, glass, and mirrored details define the character of an artistic, minimalist home by TRG Architecture + Interior Design. The exterior of the property was traditional — French Country-style, to be exact — but the owners craved contrasting contemporary interiors that would serve as a sleek backdrop to their impressive collection of modern artworks. Careful to avoid an unsettling juxtaposition between inside and out, designer Leslie Lamarre wove traditional materials like Calacatta marble throughout and emphasized a subdued neutral palette, allowing the exterior to flow flawlessly into the interior. In the master bath, it was important to Lamarre that she preserve the tall window with its views of Redwoods, but the 12-foot high ceilings felt overwhelming in scale. To offset the high ceilings, she added black feature marble at door height, creating a horizontal line around the room. A freestanding Weststyle tub serves as the centerpiece of the room, lit up by a chandelier from Terzani. On the right, back-painted glass wall panels below the marble line vary the look of the walls; the same material was used to frame the feature marble slab and in the back of the shower niche.

Back-painted glass, colored in the same Benjamin Moore & Co. paint as the area above the door, reflects the subtle shades of the room, and it provides for a breadth of elegant materials in the room, rather than focusing on only marble. The wall tile is from Ann Sacks, the vanity pulls are from Ochre, and the sconces are from Neidhardt by ALW. The plumbing is by Dornbracht.

In the foyer, a posh chandelier from luxury Italian brand Lolli e Memmoli sets the tone for the home. The walls are covered in a hemp fabric from Phillip Jeffries, and the Bardiglio marble flooring is from Waterworks. For the design, TRG Architecture + Interior Design handled all built-in finishes, as well as colors, drapery, and wall treatments, while the homowners selected furniture and artworks according to the layout.

In the living room, a chandelier from Shakuff in Brooklyn creates vivid drama. The fire sculpture is custom by Nelson Olivo.

In the kitchen, Lamarre incorporated two kitchen islands — one for cooking, and one for entertaining. Dropped ceilings help to close the space between the countertops and 12-foot ceilings. The sleek pendant lights are from Artemide, and all appliances are from Sub-Zero and Wolf. Positioned as the visual focus of the room, the tile backsplash is from Oceanside Glass & Tile.

The main kitchen island, covered in Calacatta marble, features two back-to-back sinks so that the owners can efficiently wash dishes together. Behind the island, a built-in unit includes two sections of wine storage and shelving for china, symmetrically balanced on either side of a television that guests can easily watch from the secondary island. The cabinets were designed by TRG Architecture + Interior Design and built by Downsview Kitchens.

Interconnected ring lighting from 3form creates a unique contemporary atmosphere in the great room, especially when paired with the clients’ bright cubist artwork. The carved stone, three-dimensional tile surrounding the fireplace is from Artistic Tile.

Hemp wallcoverings from Phillip Jeffries add texture to the master bedroom, while an Oly chandelier polishes off the sophisticated space. The swing-arm reading lamps are from Vibia.
